Why is the agent rate worse than the mid-market rate?
The cedi has been one of the more volatile African currencies against the yuan, so the gap between the rate you quote and the rate you pay can move within a single shipment cycle. Ghanaian importers who fix their FX early and hold the supplier price in writing protect a margin that a mid-shipment cedi slide would otherwise erase.
How does the FX leg change my landed cost?
FX multiplies the goods value, and most corridors charge duty and VAT on the CIF value that includes the goods price, so any extra FX spread compounds into the duty and VAT too.
