Data methodology

How every number on the site is built, why it is indicative, and when we review it.

Foreign exchange (FX)

We pull the mid-market CNY rate against each currency from open.er-api.com (free, covers all six currencies) with a fallback source, fawazahmed0's currency-api. A daily refresh runs. We show the mid plus an estimated agent band, because the rate you actually pay sits above the mid.

Duty and taxes

Each country has a specific fiscal model: Nigeria (CIF + surcharge + CISS + ECOWAS + 7.5% VAT), Ghana (15% + NHIL + GETFund = 20% effective), Kenya (EAC CET + IDF + RDL + 16%), South Africa (FOB, 15% VAT on the ATV), Côte d'Ivoire (RS + PCS + PC + 18%), Egypt (14% on CIF + duty). We apply each on the correct base. Rates are indicative until the exact HS code is verified.

Review cadence

Clock-sensitive: FX daily. Policy and duty reviewed quarterly, or immediately on a major change (Ghana's 2026 VAT shift, Egypt's ACI/Nafeza). Every figure carries its sampled date.

Frequently asked questions

Are the duty figures official?

No. The tariff bands are correct, but the exact per-HS duty must be verified with the customs authority. We label every value indicative and dated.

How often is FX updated?

The mid-market rate daily from open.er-api.com with a fallback source. The agent band is an estimate of the provider spread above the mid.
